I'm a poet / essayist / memoirist/
journalist (in the sense of keeping a journal, not of working for a newspaper) and it occurred to me that a blog fits in with all that. If Montaigne, father of the essay, were alive today, he'd keep a blog. This is my self-portrait as frustrated artist who can't believe she's not famous yet. (And because it's part of my artistic endeavor, the whole damn thing is copyrighted. All rights reserved.)

Just Like Everyone Else

I'm way too busy reading about the insanity that is McCain's choice for vice president to do most of the things I'm supposed to do. OK, I manage to shower and dress each day, to eat when I get hungry, to respond to other human beings when they speak directly to me, but other things--like this blog, for instance--have fallen by the wayside, and may remain there for a while, until I make some sense of all this. I'm not dead or anything, I'm just reading about pit bulls who wear lipstick and advocates of abstinence who are upset when other people's kids get knocked up before they're legally adults, but are proud as punch when their own kids go to the altar halfway through a pregnancy. Or people who cite their family situation as one of their main qualifications for national office (this person's a normal person, with a FAMILY!) then cry holy hell when other people probe that situation. Or people who think that asking librarians if they're willing to burn books means someone is ready to interaction with a diverse cast of world leaders.

My eyeballs are starting to bleed. Seriously. I looked in the mirror last night and found that the whites of my eyes had disappeared, and realized that I saw the world entirely through lenses of red and blue, with a pair of great big black dots in the middle.

OK. I have to get back to trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

I hear you. I've been walking around in a daze over the cynicism and betrayal of national interest that McCain's VP choice represents. Just when you think the level of discourse can't sink any lower....

I love how Obama says to vote your hopes not your fears. It's clear from Palin's speech that the Republicans not only want to vote your fears, they want you to vote your contempt.

A President Palin would amplify the worst excesses of the current Bush administration. It's unthinkable.

I hope we can at least agree.. that Obama.. preaching Change and Hope and the End of corruption in Washington is just as insane to make Biden his VP.

Please be THAT open minded.

At least she claims she will CUT GOVERNMENT.... obama wants nationalized health care.. so i will never vote for THAT lunacy.. to even SAY the words means you are a cunt... have a nice day!

Please check it out, readers: a nasty, nasty man named Kent Johnson who doesn't understand punctuation or capitalization and whose email address is actorkent@yahoo.com, has informed me that "to even SAY the [unspecified] words means you are a cunt..."

I'm sure he would like to get all sorts of cunt-related email. Please help him out with that.

You are right, MHH--chief among those excesses being sheer incompetence.

God help us all if McCain/Palin wins.

Your eyes are going to be okay, Holly. It happened to me once, and it's a sign that stress is getting to you. My doctor even laughed at my being worried about it, but you might want to get a doctor to take a look at you anyway.

And, amen about Palin. What a neanderthal.

Wow! Um. Gee. Did Actor Kent really say what he did?! Frankly, I'm gobsmacked.

Yo, Kent: you're one of the reasons I won't be voting for McCain-Palin. How's them apples?

By Holly on September 9, 2008 7:27 PM

He really wrote that, Janet. What an ass. I'm glad he hasn't been back.
