I'm a poet / essayist / memoirist/
journalist (in the sense of keeping a journal, not of working for a newspaper) and it occurred to me that a blog fits in with all that. If Montaigne, father of the essay, were alive today, he'd keep a blog. This is my self-portrait as frustrated artist who can't believe she's not famous yet. (And because it's part of my artistic endeavor, the whole damn thing is copyrighted. All rights reserved.)

Someplace High in Paris

A week ago Monday morning Matt and I visited a Parisian landmark I neglected to see on my first visit to Paris 21 years ago. I don't know why I didn't go before; I just didn't. But it was very cool to see the Eiffel Tower up close, and to gaze down on Paris from a height of over 300 meters.

Here I am:

You look really great! I love that coat. Just one question: Where is the beret I heard so much about?

I'm glad you like the coat--I bought it the day before I left because most of my coats were impractical (one was too long, the others weren't heavy enough) for this trip. Plus I couldn't stand the idea of wandering through Paris in the only suitable coat I own: this threadbare, outdated purple affair(truly, it is bright purple) I've worn the last eight or nine winters. But I'm thrilled with this new coat--I love the herringbone!

I didn't wear the beret (cherry red, not raspberry) at all in Paris. It wasn't so cold that I needed it, and it always makes my forehead itch after a while, because it's wool. But I wore it in Brussels, when it snowed.
